Panasonic, Panasense, 2007

Team Panasense was approached by Panasonic ATRL to “explore the use of wearable technologies to provide people with greater awareness of their mental or emotional states and feedback that promotes or encourages enhanced well-being.”

The combination of mental and emotional states will be referred to as internal states for the remainder of this document. Keeping in mind that the intended focus was to be upon the visualization of invisible internal states, exclusive of sensing, the design team developed the following goal: to provide a medium to convey, consider and understand emotions between users to enhance communication.

The team’s efforts have culminated in the creation of E-MO, an innovative display for communicating invisible internal states in real-time, face-to-face social interactions.
